Sketches for Proposed Super Wal-Mart

Six sketches have been produced showing design concepts for the proposed new Super Wal-Mart at 301 and MLK. These sketches are at the Newtown Redevelopment Office (police substation building) on MLK across from the Goodwill.

Everyone is invited to review these sketches and make comments or vote for a favorite. The sketches will be available until the end of next week (Aug 18).

Stop by and take a look.

Vote for a favorite version? I have a better idea. Lets all vote for a 10 buck minimum wage w/beni's, just like the brave folks in Chicago.

Can we vote "None of the above"?

I agree with anonymous 11:32. All look like big box with doo-dads.

This reminds me of buying a car from a used-car lot in the 1980's, when the archetypical used car salesmen told me and my family, "You can't go wrong with this one -- look at the interior, it has color-coordinated seat-belts and everything."

Thanks to Wal-Mart for giving us a choice between Super-Value Meal 1, 2 and 3 -- no matter where you put Mr. Potatoe Head's lips, he's still Mr. Potatoe Head.

Hopefully Wal-Mart will follow the City of Sarasota's lead and guarantee all of their future employees a living wage, rather than sell us on some sham of community participation where we'll excitedly buy into their used-car with color-coordinated seat belts.

Keep in mind, Walmart has been an asset to Osprey. It isn'tthat bad looking, and there is alot of new development going on in what was once a somewhat blighted area.

And traffic hasn't increased much if at all.

Also, in Chicago, where they are forced to pay $13 / hr minumum wage plus benefits, they backed out of the project. The "living wage" law is now under reconsideration.
